Looking to escape your college dorm and enjoy the fall season? Consider visiting a local farm close to campus. There’s no better time to step outside, take a break from studying, and immerse yourself in the beauty of fall. Whether you’re an autumn enthusiast or are simply looking to explore New England’s landscapes, these farms offer something for everyone. Pick apples and pumpkins, indulge in sweet fall treats, or capture instagram-worthy moments with friend at one of these three farms. 

 

Dame Orchard Farm

This seventh-generation family-run farm, offers a variety of classic fall activities for all ages. Aside from apple and pumpkin picking, the farm provides a “you-pick” flower season. Guests can purchase a prepaid quart mason jar with water for just $18, and personally hand-pick and cut their own bouquet of flowers. The farm asks that flower pickers bring their own scissors or hand clippers. A range of freshly grown fruits and vegetables are also available for purchase as well as local honey, syrups, and autumn decorations in the farm’s shop. Finish off your experience with refreshments like popcorn, apple cider donuts, coffee, hot chocolate, and more to quench your thirst and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Phantom Farms

Phantom Farms is a year-round Rhode Island treasure with a bit of rustic charm. With over 14 acres of land, the farm offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere with features such as a garden, cafe, and country store. The farm offers an extensive menu of breakfast and lunch options including bagels, muffins, sandwiches, and salads. They are renowned for their pastries and pies, which are often preordered during holidays. Inside their country store, you’ll find products like candles, soaps, jellies, jams, honey, and farm merchandise. Phantom Farms is the ideal destination for a quick meal or a leisurely chat with friends. Whether you choose to sit inside and feast your eyes on the tempting treats or relax on the patio, you’ll be treated to the stunning scenery. Sip on signature fall drinks, such as iced apple cider, and indulge in mouthwatering pumpkin desserts like their famous Pumpkin Mousse Roll. Phantom Farms is sure to leave you eager to return.

Jaswell’s Farm

Ranked as the 7th best orchard in the U.S. for pick-your-own apples, Jaswell’s Farm has a rich four-generation family history. The farm offers the opportunity to pick-your-own-sunflowers, but it is best known for its pick-your-own apples. Guests can choose from two bag options: a peck bag holding over 10 lbs of apples for $28 or a half-bustle bag holding over 20 lbs for $48. Picking takes place from 10-4 p.m. and reservations are available however, walk-ins are also welcomed. Pre-bagged apples are available for purchase at the on-site market offering an array of fresh produce, cheese, milk, ice cream, sauces, honey, and more. The farm’s bakery creates delicious treats like classic candy, caramel, and gourmet chocolate-covered apples, muffins, cinnamon rolls, cookies, pies, and bread. For those unable to visit the farm in person, treats and refreshments including apple cider donuts, pasteurized apple cider, and lemonade are available for purchase online. Their products can be found in stores like Dave’s Marketplace and Wrights Dairy Farm.
