Providence Student Engagement hosted a game night tournament last Friday (October 27, 2023). The tournament was set to start at 1 p.m. in the Wildcat Centre lounge. It was free to go, and there were three prizes that players could win. There were five participants and several games to choose from. These games included Candyland, Jenga, Monopoly, Scrabble, and CATAN.
All of the board games were spread out among the tables. The first game that was played was Scrabble. After a while, everyone was stumped on what word to use next, so the score was tallied. Eric Barton got first place in the game, which was an impressive feat. After Scrabble, the participants voted to play Monopoly. The game of Monopoly lasted nearly three hours until five p.m. It was extremely intense, which made the game all the more exciting. The money, hotels, and houses were counted in order to choose the winner. The winner of Monopoly was Cora Welch.
In an interview with the winner, she said that she really enjoys board games and thought it would be a fun way to spend the afternoon. Cora also stated that she really enjoyed making new friends during the event and was playing just for fun. The tournament prizes were three shirts from the JWU bookstore. The top 3 winners of Monopoly received the prizes.
