From October 20-22, the JWU Players hosted an escape room they designed and created. The escape room was titled “Stuck in the Family” and was held in Wales Hall. This was the 9th annual escape room, and the theme was a casting call for a TV show. The escape room costs $5 per person and could accommodate groups of up to 6.
Once everyone in the group paid for their ticket, they would head inside to Pesi Forum, and we were guided over to chairs set up in a circle with scripts on them. One of the JWU Players acted as a casting director for a TV show and asked what roles everyone wanted from the script. Once characters had been picked, our group had a few JWU Players join in to help fill all the roles. Then we read the script about a family and their morning. After the group finished reading the script, the casting director told us to follow them and that we could audition immediately. The casting director brought us up a creepy, narrow staircase and led us into a room. In that room, the games began; from there, we solved puzzles to reveal codes to unlock the doors that would help lead to our escape.
The escape room was so much fun, and the actors did a great job of creating the story for the people trying to escape. The JWU Players were very creative at using their space to their advantage, and the props added to the game. Overall, the event was a lot of fun, and thankfully, my group escaped.
