A Pumpkin Wonderland: Roger Williams Park Zoo’s Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Looking to get into the spooky spirit? Look no further than the Roger Williams Park Zoo, where you can enjoy the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. This popular pumpkin attraction is just a 9-minute drive from campus and features a collection of over 5,000 pumpkins on display. The annual event is visited by thousands each fall season, running until the end of October. Surrounded by intricately carved pumpkins for over a quarter mile, individuals are transported into different worlds as they walk through. This year, I decided to pay a visit myself, eager to walk along the enchanted trails that have drawn so many guests year after year. 

Upon entering, I was greeted by skeletons, and tombstones, and captivated by green, purple, and orange lights covering the trees. The zoo was carefully decorated with Halloween decorations to complement what lies ahead. After a short wait, I was surrounded by pumpkins not just all around me, but above me. Each section offered a new theme including Europe and Asia, to a safari and Route 66. Music is played while you walk to match the theme and elevate the mood. I admired the carefully crafted designs and saw the great details that went into each pumpkin. There was something for everyone to enjoy despite age differences. Personally, my favorite had to be the safari-themed section featuring carvings of zebras, gorillas, and leopards. 

As the trail concludes, there is merchandise and memorabilia available for purchase. Vendors and snack bars are conveniently set up to catch visitors before they leave, offering a variety of fall treats and sweets. Try out the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular for yourself and witness the amazing artistry so many come back to see. The event runs throughout the month of October, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and closing at 10:30 p.m. Tickets can be bought online through their website and range between $18-$21 for adults and $15-$18 for children, depending on the day of the week.
