On the Saturday of homecoming weekend, there was an all-afternoon event put together by the Providence Student Engagement office called The Spirit Zone. The event was advertised to take place at the Wildcat Center on the Harborside Campus and have pumpkin painting, music, and more family fun activities.
After discussing the event with my friend Giana Aguirre, who attended the event in my place, I found out more information. When discussing the pumpkin painting, she told me there were plenty of pumpkins to choose from, and once people chose their pumpkins, they could sit down and draw on them with paint, pens, and markers. She said she saw various designs created by students and their families, including ghosts, jack-o'lanterns, and other Halloween iconography. This all happened while listening to today's top hits, provided by Student Engagement.
In addition to pumpkin painting, she mentioned there was a balloon artist who made balloon animals. During her time at the Spirit Zone, Giana was able to make a “sugar candy tube” and get her picture taken with some friends.
Overall, the event went well and created an enjoyable experience for students and their families.
