During Thanksgiving, there is a traditional meal that many families across America enjoy. This meal usually consists of a golden brown turkey, tart cranberry sauce, salty gravy, creamy mashed potatoes, and baked buttery rolls. Finishing this traditional meal are a variety of pies, such as pumpkin, cherry, or apple. But while this meal is a staple in America, across the ocean many different places use similar ingredients, but in different ways for their own unique Thanksgiving dinners.
Going along with the theme of turkey, many different countries use turkey as the main ingredient of their dish, but usually as the stuffing or main protein. In Thailand, turkey is used in turkey meatballs, and in South Korea, the turkey is usually braised in a sweet and salty brin, rather than different dry spices. Rather than just mashing the potatoes, Switzerland enjoys Hasselback potatoes, which are cut thinly, and baked to crispy golden. Italy uses the mashed potatoes to create gnocchi to enjoy on the holiday.
While these dishes are different from each other, I think everyone can agree that Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for the people, things, and opportunities that people are given in life. While we may celebrate differently, we each can be grateful for each other.
