A week ago, on February 17, UIB hosted SnoBall, a winter formal for JWU students and their dates. Set up in the glittering Omni Hotel in downtown Providence, the ballroom was complete with tables, a dancefloor, and elegant chandeliers. The centerpiece of each table subtly alluded to Cinderella with a plastic glass slipper and wire frame of the pumpkin carriage. When the doors opened at 7pm, the steady stream of students began to file in.
There was a noticeable trend in fashion for the evening. Perhaps due to the cold weather, many women chose to don a pantsuit of some kind, ranging from rather simple to sparkly and bell-bottomed. However, the chilly breeze didn’t stop some men from wearing dresses; kudos to all of you who braved the cold in a dress or skirt.
In each corner of the ballroom, food stations were set up for guests to eat before getting on the dance floor. The hotel staff was a bit delayed in setting up but once they were, the lines nearly stretched across the room. They offered burger and buffalo chicken sliders, salad, pasta, and a whole host of other foods suitable for the occasion. A cash bar was offered to those 21+ and as always, Pepsi sodas were hosted.
All in all, the night echoed with nostalgia as everyone danced to popular hits from decades before and relived those days in high school where the only thing you worried about was who you were asking to winter formal.
